Amazon’s package testing approach uniquely categorizes individually packaged TVs and monitors. Test Type G is designed for TVs and monitors that weigh less than 150 pounds and have a girth less than 165 inches. These products are shipped via parcel delivery using the standard handling method, also known as the floor-loaded method.

This method applies to products received at an Amazon.com Fulfillment Center as individual packages, not on pallets or with multiple packaged products on a single pallet. They are intended to ship to the end consumer without a pallet.

ISTA 6 SIPP Type G Verification Process

Type G products qualify for SIPP (Ships In Product Packaging) status, meaning they are not placed in an additional Amazon box (over-boxing). These products undergo testing based on the ISTA 6 SIPP Type G test sequence, developed by Amazon and the International Safe Transit Authority (ISTA).

Like other SIPP packages, Type G products must be easy to open, designed to reduce waste, and have minimized weight and dimensions.

Package certification becomes necessary in one of four situations:

  • When introducing a new product or package to Amazon
  • If there are changes to a product’s design
  • When a change in Amazon’s requirements makes a previously exempt package need certification
  • If Amazon observes damages during shipment to the customer.

Product Condition Evaluation: Agreeing on how to assess the product’s condition upon arrival.

Overview of the ISTA-6 Type G Test Plan

Amazon sellers and vendors must certify the packaging for most TVs and monitors at an Amazon-approved testing lab, part of the Amazon APASS network. Labs must fully comprehend the process.

ISTA 6 Test G requires testing on one sample, but Amazon.com recommends performing the test five or more times with new samples for more representative results. Products submitted as samples should closely resemble actual production items.

Final official testing should be conducted with actual production items for accurate results.
